Memorial Psychiatric Hospital

History
Memorial Hospital consists of three buildings that were constructed in 1926. The complex of buildings is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2002, the hospital was purchased by Austin-Texas based Youth and Family Centered Services (www.yfcs.com), a corporation with facilities throughout the country.

Memorial Hospital’s licensed operating capacity is 70 beds. It offers acute psychiatric services to adolescents and children. Additionally, it operates a Residential Treatment Center for children between the ages of 5 and 11. All adolescent and child services are available to both boys and girls. Patients of school age attend an accredited on-site school.

Its newest facility, the Chrysalis Center, provides services for mentally retarded and developmentally disabled children from ages 5 through 12.

Staffed to provide a comprehensive program of care, schooling, and activity, the program utilizes rewards and extinguishment schedules to establish appropriate behavior and adaptation to the necessities of daily living.

In order to offer a continuum of care, Memorial Hospital also provides Partial Hospital Services to children and adolescents. Memorial Hospital became a wholly owned subsidiary of Youth and Family Centered Services in August 2002.

Mission Statement
Memorial Hospital’s mission is to provide high quality, comprehensive behavioral health services to adolescents and children who are vulnerable and at risk. Treatment is habilative in nature and provided through a continuum of care ranging from acute psychiatric services to partial hospitalization.

Services are provided in a multidisciplinary setting with all treatment guided by a psychiatrist. Services are individualized, culturally sensitive and client/family centered. Memorial Hospital has bilingual and multicultural staff to meet its commitment to provide culturally diverse services. Clinical emphasis is on assessment, treatment planning, discharge and aftercare planning, the goal of which is to prepare clients for a successful future at home and in school and the community.

Services and Populations Served
Acute Psychiatric Services: Adolescents 12-17, Children 5-11

Residential Treatment Services: Children 5-12

Chrysalis Center for children with a psychological diagnosis and either a developmental disability or mental retardation. The Chrysalis Center accepts children from 5-12.

Licensure and Accreditation
Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

The New Mexico Department of Health licenses acute psychiatric services.

Residential Treatment Services are licensed and accredited by the New Mexico Department of Children, Youth and Families.

On-site school is provided by Albuquerque Public Schools through the Homebound Services Program.

Job Opportunities
Memorial Hospital employs behavioral health technicians, therapists, nurses, case managers and teachers. Inquiries regarding these and other opportunities can be made by contacting the Human Resources Director at the main hospital number.
